If an actor is typecast, they play the same type of character in every play or film that they are in. typecast in American English to cast (an actor) repeatedly in the same type of part, or in the part of a character whose traits are very much like the actor's own transitive verb: to cast (a performer) in a role that requires characteristics of physique, manner, personality, etc., similar to those possessed by the performer typecast in British English verb: to cast (an actor) in the same kind of role continually, esp because of his or her physical appearance or previous success in such roles |
