to return or turn over full legislative powers, as of amendment, to (a constitution) that were formerly held by the government of another country: a term used in Canada to describe the action of taking over the power to amend the constitution from the Bri transitive verb: to transfer (legislation) to the authority of an autonomous country from its previous mother country patriate in British English to bring under the authority of an autonomous country, for example as in the transfer of the Canadian constitution from UK to Canadian responsibility |
