elegit in American English
a writ of execution by which a plaintiff is given possession of the defendant's goods until the plaintiff's claim is satisfied noun: a writ of execution against a judgment debtor's goods, property, or land, held by the judgment creditor until payment of the debt, as from rents on the land elegit in British English noun: a writ which delivered a debtor's property to a plaintiff until the debt was satisfied. This was abolished in 1956 |
