to stop fibrillation of (the heart), as by the use of electric current transitive verb: to arrest the fibrillation of (heart muscle) by applying electric shock across the chest, thus depolarizing the heart cells and allowing normal rhythm to return defibrillate in British English to stop abnormal rhythm of (the heart) and restore it to normal rhythm, usually by administering an electric charge |
