a synthetic rubber formed by polymerizing and curing the starting materials, as butadiene-styrene, at a temperature of 5°C (41° F) or lower: used in automobile tires because of its special resistance to abrasion noun: a synthetic rubber made at a relatively low temperature (about 40°F or 4°C) and having greater strength and durability than that made at the usual temperature (about 120°F or 49°C): used chiefly for retreading tires cold rubber in British English noun: synthetic rubber made at low temperatures (about 5°C). It is stronger than that made at higher temperatures and is used for car tyres |
