that attribute of light which produces the sensation of color apart from luminance; specif., the color of an object as measured quantitatively in terms of a reference color noun: the difference in color quality between a color and a reference color that has an equal brightness and a specified chromaticity chrominance in British English noun: the quality of light that causes the sensation of colour.
