a lipid that contains galactose and is found normally in brain and nerve tissue noun: any of a class of glycolipids, found in brain tissue and the medullary sheaths of nerves, that, upon hydrolysis, yield sphingosine, galactose or certain other sugars, and a fatty acid cerebroside in British English noun: any glycolipid in which N-acyl sphingosine is combined with glucose or galactose: occurs in the myelin sheaths of nerves |
