a metallurgical process in which aluminum reduces another metal from its oxide, simultaneously releasing great heat noun: a process of producing high temperatures by causing finely divided aluminum to react with the oxygen from another metallic oxide aluminothermy in British English noun: a process for reducing metallic oxides using finely divided aluminium powder.
